Maha Shivratri is a sacred Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and ignorance. Observed on the fourteenth night of the waning moon in the month of Phalguna, this auspicious night is believed to be when Lord Shiva performed the divine Tandava and when he united with Goddess Parvati.
Devotees observe fasts, offer milk, water, bel leaves, and fruits to the Shiva Lingam, and spend the night in prayer, meditation, and chanting of “Om Namah Shivaya.” Maha Shivratri represents self-discipline, inner awakening, and spiritual transformation, encouraging devotees to overcome negativity and walk on the path of truth, devotion, and righteousness.
